I have been thinking a lot recently about “Are you really Agile?” Everyone has heard the expression, “Oh, we use Jira and therefore we are Agile…” I think the confusion about tools and what Agile teaches is actually bigger than what most think.

There is a lot more that needs to be done to educate professionals on what the values are in scrum / kanban / leanstartup. We all need to realise that there is no single methodology or framework has this covered 100%. “We are uncovering better ways of developing software by doing it and helping others do it” This quote is so critical, by the virtue of conducting the work, we will uncover the most optimised route. 

Today we have Scrum Alliance, Scrum.org and Scaled Agile, Inc. who have collectively done a fantastic job in keeping this movement going. They all have continuously kept the course material up to date to reflect new ways of being agile and maintained a high level of teaching.

So, what’s the problem?

We need to educate more and spread the word faster. Everyone has been exposed to “A” word in some shape and form, but we are all on different parts of that journey to reach that final understanding.
